[holding text for the moment; I’ll complete it in December 2014]
In 2014:
– I continued the grants to the Environmental Investigation Agency (illegal timber and wildlife trafficking in China) and to the Rainforest Foundation (Congo basin) begun the previous year (here).
– I sponsored the application to Network for Social Change of LAON (the Loose Anti-Opencast Network), recognising that coal – and not fracking – is the real UK ‘leave it in the ground’ campaign. The opencast community campaigns have almost no support – LAON doesn’t even have a website – either financial or from most of the major campaigning NGOs. After the grant was approved I have continued my involvement with the project and its indefatigible coordinator Steve Leary (his twitter feed is here).
